Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Music and the Bachelor of Science in Music are for those students searching for a broad-based academic degree.

The Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in music provides an alternative to the professional degree鈥攖he Bachelor of Music. The General Education requirement is similar to that specified for all other liberal arts programs.

Point of Pride

The has more than 20 ensembles, including bands, orchestras, choirs, opera/musical theatre, and specialty ensembles. All are open to any students, regardless of major. (Some require auditions.)

Why study Music - Liberal Arts?

Musicians may play musical instruments, sing, write musical compositions or conduct groups in vocal or instrumental performances. To gain admittance into the music program at Illinois State one must have extensive background in music and must complete an audition. The main focus of the program lies in three main areas. They are: Music Education, Music Therapy, and Performance. Majoring in music provides students with a sense of aesthetics and an understanding of human expression valuable to many employers.

Applying to the Program

  • Complete your application for admission, including selecting an audition date鈥攚e'll email you with a confirmation for your audition.
  • Refer to the suggested repertoire recommendations for each to prepare for your audition. You may want to also contact the respective applied faculty member for further information about the audition.
  • Visit your portal to upload:
    • a letter of recommendation from a music professional
    • a music resume
