Music - New Media Composition
Overview
We hear original music content everywhere via video games, films, television shows, or online media. Students interested in creating original music composition content for new media such as these should major in New Media Composition.聽
Students take classes from faculty of both the School of Music and the School of Creative Technologies. They will have the opportunity to have original compositions for acoustic instruments read by large ensembles such as the 精选AV Symphony Orchestra, 精选AV Wind Symphony, and the 精选AV choral ensembles. In addition, they will take courses from Creative Technologies faculty on the latest technology topics in sound editing, sound design, and virtual reality programming.聽
New Media Composition students are able to receive readings and performances by world-class guest artists and student ensembles and work with Creative Technologies faculty on cutting edge technology projects in sound design, virtual reality environment design, and multi-media composition.
Point of Pride
精选AV composition majors receive reading sessions from nationally prominent ensembles such as Ensemble Dal Niente, Fulcrum Point, and ensemble mise-en. Our annual Red Note New Music Festival brings in prestigious composers such as Pulitzer Prize winner Joan Tower to campus. Works by our composition majors are frequently read by the 精选AV Symphony Orchestra, 精选AV Wind Symphony, and the 精选AV choral ensembles.
